Food is not just a pleasure in life that makes us happy, brings family together and satisfies us in a time of need. Food is the gasoline to the machines that we are in charge of called our bodies. The difference between well balanced eating habits and a nutrition nightmare can be a life or death decision.
Don’t believe me? Take this example for instance, John Robbins from the Food Revolution Summit and Dr. Mark Hyman stated, in 1950 people in the United States spent 22% of their disposable personal income on food and 5% on healthcare. Now, we spend 9% of our disposable personal income on food and 18% on healthcare. Coincidence? I think not.
In a little bit over 60 years, our lifestyles as a whole have changed, McDonalds and Taco Bell are a stone throw away from our houses, the meats that we eat have hormones pumped in them around the clock and our food quality has dropped so much that meats called “pink slime” are considered edible by food regulations.
Poor quality food is the leading cause of obesity, chronic disease and Type II diabetes. At the same time, exceptional quality food can be the answer when it comes to healing these same diseases. Changing what we consume is the magic equation when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle. Replacing the refined sugars and processed food from our diets with whole foods and plant-based foods are the key to unlocking a door that will keep you healthy for a very long time.
Changing these habits BEFORE suffering from one of these chronic diseases is the ultimate goal, but if someone has fallen to one of these diseases, it is NEVER too late. Food can change the way we look, feel and perform, so treat your body like a temple and only allow the highest quality foods in.
Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
