THE POWER OF GRATITUDE
Gratitude – the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful
What if you woke up tomorrow with only what you were grateful for today?
Gratitude leads to a better quality of life. As humans, we are genetically wired to think more about the negative in our lives compared to the positives. Our goal should be to change that. Focus on what you can do rather than what you cannot do.
Most of our society’s lack of gratitude stems from the fast-paced world in which we live in. It’s most easily described as being the, “I want that NOW,” society. It really is, when you break it down, an overwhelming world that we have to go out into each and every day.
One of the biggest issues is due to the demand for “convenience” all around us. Think about it, our coffee has been made “convenient” with the use of K-cups. If we need food in the next 5 minutes, look no further than the local fast food’s drive-thru window. Need something on-the-go? Pick up a packaged “convenience food” from the gas station. Only have 10 minutes to cook? Microwave it!
Now, we aren’t here to bash on all of the modern technologies that have made our lives easier, because everyone uses them. However, most of these “conveniences” has led our society into demanding things instead of enjoying them. This leads us to our next big questions.
Did we forget to count our blessings? Additionally, are we only grateful for the things in which we no longer have?
Are you only grateful for…
- The test that came back negative?
- Your old job after you were fired?
- Your health after the heart attack?
- Your children after they ran away in the grocery store and you found them?
OPRAH WINFREY
For 16 years, Oprah Winfrey wrote down five things that she was grateful for each day. She stated, “This is the single-most important thing that I have ever done.”
Writing out what you are grateful for gives it more meaning when it is transformed from being just thoughts, to the screen/paper. Sharing your gratitude is the best way to change that way your brain is wired.
YOUR THOUGHTS CAN SHAPE YOUR OBJECTIVE WORLD
On March 1, 1905, a 26 year-old patent clerk, called Einstein, proved that everything is made up of energy through his theory of relativity, E=mc2. Everything in the universe is made up of energy, including every cell and every atom in your body.
These atoms are made up of 99.99999% energy and only 00.00001% physical substance. More importantly, this energy can change upon its circumstances.
Your beliefs, feelings, and thoughts determine your particular vibration and frequency of your energy. Therefore, since we are made up of mostly energy, we need to create more positive energy in our lives.
CREATE AWARENESS AROUND GRATITUDE NOW
Every day may not be good, but there’s something good in every day.
What are you grateful for?
- Your eyesight?
- Your family?
- Your friends
- Your life?
- Your spirit?
- Your job?
- Your dog?
Fill the “empty space” with positive energy. Focus on gratitude, because it is one of the most powerful emotions. Think, speak, and feel gratitude!
Practice this by doing what Oprah does; upon waking, write down five things in which you are grateful for. Do this, and you will be well on your way to becoming someone who radiates positive energy to everyone around them!
