A Cochrane review of 75 studies found that industry-sponsored drug and device trials were 27% more likely to report favorable results and 34% more likely to draw favorable conclusions than independent trials (Lundh et al., Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2021).
In antidepressant research, published results made it seem that 94% of trials were positive, but FDA records showed only 51% truly were (Turner et al., New England Journal of Medicine, 2008).
A meta-analysis found that 31% of registered clinical trials changed their main outcomes after results were known (Dwan et al., PLoS Medicine, 2014).
Even in systematic reviews, publication bias inflated results by up to 50%, masking true effectiveness (Stanley et al., Journal of Economic Surveys, 2023).
These findings show that while research has value, it’s not infallible. True healing can’t depend on data that’s often incomplete, selective, or financially influenced.
